  • Slew Dem Crew presents The Beast Is Released & Streets Of Rage 2 Showcase Podcast

9 CommentsPosted by admin on April 15, 2010 under Podcast, interviews

The beast is now released, founding member of Slew Dem Crew Pit has returned to action with his new mixtape The Beast Is Released. Pit was incarcerated just before the release of Slew Dem Crew’s Non Stop Working DVD/CD, so his exposure was limited due to a lengthy prison sentence. We caught up with Pit to find out about his new mixtape and the status of Slew Dem Crew.

What can you tell us about The Beast Is Released?
Well it’s raw, straight to the point. It’s coming from aspects of my life so it’s real stuff. A lot of people on road like to hear some real music and in fact a lot of my bars on The Beast Is Released were written while I was in prison so it’s very raw, straight to the point and full of things that I’ve been through.

What producers are you working with on The Beast Is Released?
Currently I’m just working with Angry and Skitz Beatz, they are the guys running my shit right now. It’s mostly hip hop, I haven’t done anything Grime at the moment.

Are you still interested in making Grime music?
Well yeah I’m always on tracks with existing Slew Dem members like Rage and I talk with Tempz. It’s not my main interest but if one of the crew said come and spit 16 bars on this track, I’ll go and smother it.

You were one of the founding members of Slew Dem Crew, who was in the original line up?
Me, G-Man, Chronik, Esco whose passed away and Waifer were the original members from Flava FM days in 1999. We moved onto Deja Vu with the Monday set, it was crazy! It had a lot of known guys that you see today, from your Wiley, Ghetto and Dizzee Rascal. All of those guys had a show on Deja Vu on a monday.

Are we going to get a Slew Dem Crew project in the future featuring the full crew?
Yeah of course, everyone is having little chats or we’ll phone each other but what it is, everyone is doing their own thing on the road, so everybody is kinda busy doing what they do and going in their own direction; so to come together, it’s a bit manic. Even for me and Rage to come here today, it was a lot because I was doing things somewhere else and then had to meet Rage and get over here. That’s our main difficulty, getting in one place all together.

You’ve featured on a lot of collaborations as part of Slew Dem Crew. Is there anybody you want to work with?
To be honest with you, i never really think like that. I think music is a thing where you can’t pre-plan it, it has to be natural, have a good flow and a real feeling that comes from within. You can’t orchestrate or script write that stuff. I haven’t got anybody like that I want to work with. If someone shouts me, tells me about their project, the vibe of it and wants me to feature, it’s all systems go. We had 16 bar and I don’t think a lot of people know about that tune. We had everybody on there from Lethal B, Ozzie B, D-Double-E to Fumin. The 16 Bar remix had Wiley and Footsie on there. If I could do a video for that track, it would be game over because it had everybody.

Pit stopped by the studio to showcase exclusive tracks from The Beast Is Released on the One Away Music podcast. He was joined by another Slew Dem member Rage, who is putting the finishing touches to the Streets Of Rage sequel. DJ Silencer spins some Hip Hop and Grime for Slew Dem Crew’s epic freestyle session.

  • Jon Allegro – Jack Jones

Jon Allegro has smashed it for his first release on Stylus Recordings, with a dance floor classic. With Jon’s jackin’ style he has created a tune with busy drums heavy bass line and a mind-blowing melody. Ethan Project & Fran Cosgrove has taken the original parts and made a bass booming tech house version of the original track. Concentrating more on trance like chords Will Clarke has remixed a more uplifting track with a big bass line. This whole package is defiantly going to go down well in clubs this summer, so watch out.

With support by Judge Jules from the worlds greatest Radio 1, this track is massive.

  • Jaja Soze – Street Boy

0 CommentsPosted by admin on May 10, 2009 under interviews

In 2008 Jaja Soze made poverty look glamorous with the release of his street smash Make It Snow from the recently released Street Boy album. When Jaja is not in the booth himself, he takes on the role of director for his own company PDC Entertainment overseeing releases from acts such as Tempman, Madixxx-Man, Naja Soze & K. Not only does Jaja hold a beneficial influence over the local kids of his neighbourhood but he has also recently had an audience that included the likes of Rev. Jesse Jackson…oh and Cherie Blair was there too.

What can we expect from the Street Boy album?

On my new album you will see my growth from a gangster to a grown man obviously it will be controversial because I’m a controversial rapper but enough said on that just make sure you go get my album when it comes out in October.

How did the Street Boys book come about?

The book was done with the intention of making a movie about the real street life that we go through in London not like these joke ones you see out there now. We just want people to understand where we are coming from and why certain things happened with the PDC movement.

You recently spoke at the House of Commons, How was that experience?

The house of commons was B.S to be honest just a lot of talk from politicians and no action.

What can you tell us about your meetings with Cherie Blair & Jesse Jackson?

Meeting Jesse Jackson was cool he’s a nice geezer very down to earth. The other person is not really worth mentioning [Laughs]

Any solo projects from the other PDC members in 2009?

We have loads of new projects from Madixxx, Naja, Heights, Mus and KC. You can download all our stuff on iTunes and emusic, so make sure you support the street music.

How is your relationship with London’s radio stations? You’ve mentioned problems with Choice FM in the past.

I don’t really like London djs but I’m cool with Choice FM, Phoebe One and Jenny Francis play my tracks so I cant complain but I just think UK radio needs to start supporting the music on a bigger level and if they don’t I think mcs and rappers need to start putting it on the djs on a street level to make them know we are serious.

How has the negative media coverage affected PDC’s progress?

Any publicity is good publicity, they can’t break PDC we have a 100 year plan [Laughs]

You featured on Bashy’s Black Boys remix, who else would you like to work with?

I’ll work with any artists as long as they’re unique.

What do you think of the Grime scene?

I don’t like grime music I think it’s a load of shit, most of the mcs are fake and talk a lot of rubbish, it’s all about Street Musik UK rap.

    What’s next for PDC?

We are about to be the biggest independent label from the UK no doubt keep watching. All of our music is available on www.pdcent.com

  • DJ Spooky Interview

0 CommentsPosted by admin on February 10, 2009 under interviews

How long have you been mixing for?

I’ve been mixing properly since 2001 but before that i was mixing off a tape deck or from radio to a turntable so it was mad so thats about 8 years of mixing this summer coming.

How did you join Slew Dem Crew

i basically joined the youngers at first through one guy called S.Dot back in the days when i used to go to his yard and just jam there day in and day out, chill out blaze and mix. Then I got introduced to all the man dem and since then I’ve just been in the crew ever since.

Are you working on any projects on the production side of things?

I’m lookin to work with G Man on his forthcoming mixtapes but right now I’m just solely banging out beats for the purpose of releasing them this year so you should see a few projects coming from me very soon.

How are the bookings in the grime scene at the moment, how often are you playing out?

There aint enough bookings for me because I’ll probabaly play out like once every 3-4 months or something. The donut promoters need to realise there are other djs out there who would give the guys they are booking a run for their money. Big up jp for showing man love for the Chockablock bookings last year. I know for certain I would get a bag of dj’s
shook when i touch deck, Sidewinder, FWD, Dirty Canvas, Urban Nerds, Night Slugs and every other promoter who’s doing this ting need to book my bloodclart! I play it all, grime, dubstep, funky & old skool garage, just book me and I’ll make sure the raves get their money’s worth, real talk.

Do you have any mixtapes lined up?

I might do a mix CD later on in the year but I dont have time for mixtapes because they are boring and the reason for that is because they dont have my beats on. Producers have got too lazy and are making half assed beats, I’ll play beats that I made in 2004 that still possess power to this day yet guys in this day and age are only making half-assed mixtape beats and I’m not in the mindset to be giving my tunes to these fucking waste mc’s who say they’ll vocal dem and then when you ask dem, “whats going on with the vocals!?”, they reel off a bag of excuses! Same goes for dj’s as well who dont wanna play my shit! I don’t want to waste my time sending beats to you guys when you don’t spin them coz we all need to eat out here. So stop being fucking pricks and start playing my shit when I give you my shit to promote otherwise it’s a par for you when the vinyl goes flying into your headtop.

What stations can we hear you on?

You can hear me on www.urbanfmtv.com wednesdays 8-10pm and fridays from 12pm-3am or you might just hear me mobbing someone else’s show! I’m on mobbing other stations though because I’m hungry but them guys dont want to bring me because I’ll end up gettin them kicked off. Big up Pyro for airing me and same goes to Axe, 2 words…your loss.

    G-Man

    G-Man

After taking some time off from music after becoming a father, Slew Dem Crew’s G-Man is back with a new mixtape and exclusive One Away Music podcast. The man behind show stealing features on Are You Dumb Vol. 1 and Non Stop Working is ready to drop his first solo cd Hard Hustling in 2009.

What have you been working on?

I’ve just been trying to finish my mixtape but its hard because nobody is showing me any love with the studio time, guys are hating bruv! They let me in the booth once and as soon as I fucking melt it down, they don’t want me back there! So I’ve been working on my mixtape and being a dad, thats what I’ve been doing. My baby is turning one next week, so I’ve just been concentrating on that and putting out some material. I’ve been doing a couple of features here and there but not enough.

How did your feature on Newham Generals track Violence come about?

Footsie gave me a call one day and said I want you to jump on the album. I went to the studio and wrote a few bars, Footsie picked the one he liked and the rest was history.

Newham Generals featuring G-Man and Dizzee Rascal – Violence

Have you had any feedback on that track?

I’ve seen a couple of the blogs and I appreciate it because I’m not in touch with the internet like that but a couple of guys phoned me and told me look on this site because guys are saying positive things, so I looked on there and read a couple of posts. I’m feeling it man, the love is there, so listen out for the Hard Hustling mixtape, its coming but I don’t want to give you a date. I’ve got eighteen tunes, I need twenty, I need to get rid of four more tunes that I have on there and replace them with new songs.

Are the people still going to get the unreleased material they heard in the past?

Put it this way, everything you’ve heard, I’ve been going lack! Not one time have you heard me going hard! I don’t consider it hard so guys might hear it and think he is going hard but to me I’m just going along with it but you can hear me go hard on the mixtape.

What direction you going with the mixtape?

I’m trying to cover all angles because I want my music played everywhere, so I’m trying to give everyone a bit of everything. For example a DJ on 1xtra that plays in the daytime, he might not be able to play all of my tunes but at least five of them you can definitely play on the radio without worrying about the swearing or the leng man bars. There are tunes on there for everyone, couple of girl tracks and roadside tracks but I’m a roadside guy so the majority is gonna be roadside.

Who is dealing with production on the mixtape?

Footsie, Merlin, Blooks and I’m getting Spooky on there. But because its half Grime and Hip Hop, I’ve been dealing with some american hip hop beats but I want all of my production to be original in-house productions so holla at me, I’m that guy!
